In a statement, it said it had on Wednesday opened an investigation based on "credible allegations about a plot against state security implicating officers." The junta on Monday suspended French news magazine Jeune Afrique for publishing "untruthful" articles that reported tension and discontent within Burkina Faso's armed forces. Over 50 Burkinabe soldiers and volunteer fighters were killed in clashes with militants in early September - the heaviest losses in months.

Reuters —Burkina Faso’s military junta on Monday suspended the French news magazine Jeune Afrique for publishing “untruthful” articles that reported tension and discontent within the country’s armed forces, it said in a statement. Jeune Afrique’s suspension marks the latest escalation in a crackdown on French media since the West African country fell under military rule last year. A soured relationshipRelations between Burkina Faso and its former colonizer France have soured since frustrations over worsening insecurity linked to a jihadist insurgency spurred two military takeovers last year. In April, two French journalists working for newspapers Le Monde and Liberation were expelled from the country. Liberation said the suspension was unjustified as the two journalists were of “perfect integrity” and had all their paperwork in order.

Users on social media are sharing a claim that the French ambassador to Ukraine Etienne de Poncins has resigned but there’s no supporting evidence. One Facebook user sharing the claim said, “Urgent: The French Ambassador to Ukraine Resigns” (here). There is another unverified French-language Facebook account under the same name and logo that identifies as a “broadcasting & media production company” (here). Jean-Michel Cadenas, a departmental delegate of the Rassemblement National in Mayenne (twitter.com/RassNational53) repeated the claim that Poncins resigned in a since-deleted tweet. There is no evidence that Poncins ever resigned from his post as the French ambassador to Ukraine.
